Prior to starting his church planting journey over 25 years ago, Bob served as a worship leader and started the college ministry "Encounter" at Willow Creek Community Church. He and two other pastors from Willow Creek then moved to Austin, TX to plant Gateway Community Church, a dynamic church known for the phrase "no perfect people allowed." Bob is also an accomplished musician, having won a Dove Award for Hard Music Album of the Year while playing with the "post nuclear rock & roll" band Massivivid.

After a lengthy season of touring he returned to Austin to help plant two more churches then helped develop and lead the Emerging Church Network. He then moved to Nashville, TN and served as the Church Multiplication Minister of Brentwood Baptist Church where he created the global church planting pipeline known as TRAIN. During his seven years there, he helped lead the church from one campus to five, planted seven churches and developed over 1oo missional community leaders. In addition to his work at Brentwood Baptist, he helped Mac Lake (the Leadership Pipeline Guru) develop and lead LAUNCH & MULTIPLY. This work now serves as the operating system for one of the largest church planting organizations in the world, the SEND Network.

In 2014 Bob and his wife Kristina moved to beautiful Holland, Michigan where he served as the Movement Pastor of Ridge Point Community Church and developed the Fearless Network of Churches. Holland also served as his home base while traveling the United States as the National Director of Recruiting for Stadia Church Planting
